Mylanthanai Massacre

Thirty five Tamils including 14 children were massacred by the SLA on August 9, 1992, supposedly in retaliation for the landmine blast that occurred that same day, in Jaffna, killing Major General Denzil Kobbekaduwa and several other senior Army officers.

Survivors identified 24 soldiers located at the Punani Camp, during a subsequent line up. The soldiers were tried in a Colombo court, in 1999, but acquitted by the Jury despite the presiding Judge asking them to reconsider their verdict. The Attorney General turned down a request from survivors and representatives of the victims, to appeal the verdict.
