Rape and Murder of Murugesapillai Koneswary, Kalmunai

M. Koneswary, a mother of four, was gang raped and then blown up with a hand grenade allegedly by police officers attached to the Central Camp Police Station against whom she had lodged a complaint some months previously. Though this atrocity received widespread local and international media attention and was protested by many women’s groups, no one was convicted for this crime.
